Optimistic View for COVID-19 ?
Yesterday Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced relaxed mask guidelines for the US. It means fully vaccinated people do not need to put on a face mask and follow 6-foot social distancing guidelines indoor and outdoor. CDC gives this optimistic view on the effectiveness of vaccines and the slowdown on COVID-19.
It is hard to know CDC is correct or not. But, the stock market participants already show their confidence by on consumer related stocks:
- Cruises: RCL, CCL, NCLH
- Department Store: M, JWN, KSS
- Travel: BKNG, EXPE
- Gambling Hotel: DKNG, PENN, MGM, CZR, LVS, WYNN
- Airlines: DAL, UAL, AAL
This view might be overly optimistic when looking at other data from John Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center where we can see spike cases in India.
We tend to stay more conservative by monitoring its progress for a while until COVID-19 is stabilized worldwide. It is also interesting to see how people react to CDC status.
Are you going to book cruises for this summer?
